In the wake of the horrifying news from Orlando, it is more important than ever to have children's books that promote tolerance, love, kindness, and respect. A couple of items:
- Author Paula Yoo is spearheading a book drive for LGBTQ books for the Orlando Youth Alliance, a nonprofit that provides support services to LGBTQ youth. If you are a LGBTQ author or write LGBTQ-themed books for kids or teens, please consider donating your books to this group.
- Providing books that speak to vulnerable kids is more important than ever. Several authors have written about schools rescinding invitations over potentially controversial stories: Kate Messner (author of SEVEN WISHES who was disinvited from a school visit), R.J. Palacio
